When a dedicated server is the right answer

A dedicated server means one physical machine running your workload and nothing else. No other customers, no shared CPU, no noisy neighbour slowing you down at the worst moment.

That is genuine isolation rather than the partial isolation a VPS provides, and it is the reason to choose one. It is not automatically the right choice, though, and it is worth being honest about when it is not.

Shared hosting suits you if…

Your site is a brochure, a blog or a small shop, traffic is measured in hundreds or low thousands of visits a month, and you would rather not think about servers at all. Shared hosting is the cheapest option and the least work.

A VPS suits you if…

You have outgrown shared hosting, need guaranteed RAM and root access, or want to install software the shared environment does not allow — but you do not need a whole machine. A VPS is the usual next step, and for most growing sites it is where the story ends.

A dedicated server suits you if…

What comes with the server

Every configuration above includes full root access, so the machine is genuinely yours to configure: your choice of stack, your own software, your own tuning. Dedicated IP addresses are included, which is also what makes SSL certificates straightforward to install.

The specifications and current pricing are in the comparison tables above and come directly from the live inventory, so what you see is what is available today rather than a figure typed into a page some time last year.

What to think about before ordering

Someone has to administer it. Root access is the point of a dedicated server, and it is also the responsibility. Updates, security patching and configuration are yours to handle unless you have someone doing it for you. If nobody on your side wants that job, a managed VPS is often the more sensible purchase.

Size for the next year, not the next week. Moving between plans is possible but it is a migration. It is usually cheaper to start slightly above what you need than to move twice.

Check whether you actually need one. Plenty of sites that feel slow are slow because of unoptimised code, oversized images or a missing cache — not because of the hardware underneath. Moving that same site to a dedicated server makes it a faster slow site. If you are not certain which you are dealing with, ask us to look first.

Common questions

What is the difference between a dedicated server and a VPS?

A VPS is a guaranteed slice of a shared physical machine. A dedicated server is the whole machine, with no other customers on it, so performance does not vary with what anyone else is doing.

Do I get full root access?

Yes. Every dedicated configuration includes full root access, so you can install and configure whatever stack you need.

Who is responsible for updates and security patching?

You are, unless you arrange otherwise. Root access means the operating system and installed software are under your control, which also makes keeping them patched your responsibility. If you would rather not manage that, a VPS is often the better fit.

Is a dedicated IP address included?

Yes, and that is also what makes installing an SSL certificate straightforward, since a certificate has to be bound to a dedicated IP.

Can I move up to a dedicated server from my current hosting?

Yes. Moving from shared hosting or a VPS to a dedicated server is a migration rather than an instant switch, so it is worth planning, but it is a routine one. Contact us and we will talk through what is involved for your site.

Will a dedicated server make my slow website fast?

Only if hosting is what is slowing it down. Unoptimised code, very large images and missing caching are more common causes, and none of them are fixed by better hardware. It is worth identifying the real cause before buying a bigger server.
